The Fish Market, Sydney
February 9, 2008
On February 5, 2008, Sue took Linda and me to the fish market in Sydney. It was late morning and the wholesale portion, to which we could not be admitted anyway, was long over. But there are several retail shops and quite a few stalls of prepared fish and seafood and takeway dishes. As it was a drizzly day, there were few people at the outside tables, but there were many buyers inside on this early day of Chinese New Year. We started at Sue’s favourite freestanding shop, Claudio’s, and then went inside the main building. The variety and quality of everything seemed to be excellent. It was far superior to any fish market that I have seen in New York, San Francisco, Paris, Nice or even Venice.
We bought two pieces of this smoked eel, along with a salmon sushi roll and some seaweed salad, and took them back to the balcony of our hotel room for a very nice lunch.
