The Salamanca Market, Hobart 1
February 15, 2008
If you are planning a trip to Tasmania, be sure to include a Saturday morning in Hobart. The market, which takes over Salamanca Street, between the old sandstone warehouses and the port, is fabulous. There are over 200 stalls selling Tasmanian products of all types. Food is of primary importance, of course. That is what I’ll show in this post. Another will show the wide variety of other offerings.

The local Hmong community provides many of the stands with fresh greens and other vegetables.
Our furry and feathered companions deserve some hand made food too.

Salivating over the Salamanca Market, especially the zucchini blossoms. They’re a favorite, but I’ve never gotten up the nerve to cook them myself.
Some of the fish names are intriguing as well. Gummy plaice? And what looks like “Blue Offenbacher” — no doubt very musical.
