Osteria Del Circo, NYC

Osteria Del Circo, conveniently located across the street from City Center, is the creation of restauranteur Sirio Maccioni, proprietor of the legendary Le Cirque, his wife Egidiana, who is the supervising chef, and their sons, Mario, Marco and Mauro. There is a festive circus décor.  The high ceilings and well-spaced tables make conversation easy.


June, Linda, Russell, Ron and I went on March 2, 2009. There was a three-course pre-theater dinner for the excellent price of $35, which we all had except Russell.

Ron and I started with glasses of their wine of the day, 2007 Laetitia Estate (Arroyo Grande) Chardonnay. We then ordered a bottle of 2004 “Tenuta Marchese” Marchesi Antinori Chianti Classico. Both were good and right for the occasion.

June and Linda started with the
Mesclun Salad with Shaved Pecorino Cheese.
Russell had the
Rigatoni all’Amatriciana
Rigatoni with Guanciale, Onion, Tomato and Romano Cheese

Ron’s first course was
Pappardelle with Goose Ragù

My starter was
Grilled Baby Octopus with Red Onions and Schiaccioni Beans

June and Ron’s main course was
Bufala Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli with Butter and Sage

Linda’s second course was Grilled Salmon Guazzetto. Russell went on to
Scaloppine alla Valdostana
Veal Scaloppine with Piave Cheese, Prosciutto and Hen of the Woods Mushrooms

My main was
Brick Pressed Chicken with Cipolline Onions and Swiss Chards

Russell’s dessert was the
Zuccotto al Cioccolato
Milk Chocolate Mousse Sponge Cake with Dry Meringue

My dessert was
Orange Crème Caramel

There were biscotti with the coffees.

We had a good time in a cheerful ambience with good food and service. We went on to the excellent revival of West Side Story.
